29/09 - Tests for the podium of the FK2 World Cup

Auto Sport Academy continues its commitment alongside young talents enrolled in international go-karting and just like during the KF3 World Cup in Sarno 15 days ago, the Federal Institution was present in Alcaniz last weekend for the KF2 World Cup where it offered to the final podium a complete free day of test aboard a Formula Academy.

The least we can say is that this KF2 World Cup will have been totally unpredictable! Current leader of the Spanish Championship, the Portuguese David Da Luz was able to take advantage of the situation to impose himself. After having come back on the trail of the leading group, he could see the podium reaching out its arms after the abandon of one of his opponents. Then, in the last lap, the fight between the two leading fellows ended up in a crash. From then on, the 16 year old youngster seized the opportunity and crossed the finishing line as the winner: "I cannot believe what it happening to me. I really had to fight to follow the three others… In hardly more than a lap, I went from 4th to 1st place. This is just incredible!"

Following a penalty of 3 seconds imposed to the driver having finished 2nd, it is the Belgian Stoffel Vandoorne (17 years), winner of the 2nd edition of the RACB Steering Wheel Trophy that took place on September 9th this year, who inherited the silver medal. A place that is very far from being unworthy, as he made a beautiful rise after having dashed from 15th position on the starting grid. "What an incredible lap! This is only my 3rd season in go-karting and I have never come here before this weekend. I just can’t believe what has happened to me... " The same thing for the Australian Mitchell Gilbert (15 years): "I was well in the competition throughout the weekend and a peep into the Top Ten would have been sufficient. To have this podium is just unbelievable!"

Still, thanks to this result, Mitchell Gilbert will be invited to Le Mans, just like his mates, in order to discover the Formula Academy.
